But  the  presence  of  the  thing  bothered  him,
               and  he  hoped  it  would  leave  when  he  saw  its
               disinterest.  This  one  did  not  get  discouraged.  She
               stood up in an awful noise, and stood between Josh
               and the TV, more to be in front of him than to get his
               attention.  She  had  taken  the  human  gesture  as  a
               cultural norm when it was just politeness, and tried
               to do the right thing.

                      "For  that,  I  must  become  a  member  of  your
               species. Adopt your way of life. So, I need a host. And
               you're the perfect candidate."

               Josh growled. He didn't want to listen to it anymore,
               and even those stupid games on TV sounded better
               than that emotionless tone.

                      "I never applied."

               The  creature remained  silent  and  seemed  to  think.
               Another black thread escaped from his left arm.

               "Look, if you allow me to live in your body, you're
               going to die. You're bored, aren't you? If you accept
               my proposal, you won't feel anything at all. No more
               boredom, no more fatigue, no more weariness."

                      For  the  first  time,  the  young  man  really
               thought about the creature's words. He stood up and
               smiled.  He  was  convinced  that  if  he  had  had  one
