Performing Arts Electives
Beginning Music Technology: Music Technology will explore all realms and opportunities associated with music-
making using technology. Students will learn about the history and development of instruments, as well as the
process of how to make music on the computer. Topics covered include instrument types, musical genres, movie
music, sampling, along with music business and production. This course will meet all of the interests of a new
musician wishing to learn more, an aspiring musical artist, or a serious musician with previous training. No previous
musical experience is needed to participate in this class.
Beginning Piano: The beginning piano class is designed for students who have never played piano and wish to learn.
Students will learn basic music literacy (music theory--reading pitches and rhythms), how to play scales, chords, and
perform beginner-level repertoire.
Fundamentals of Theater*: Students study theatre history, acting, and the technical skills involved in a
production, and learn to analyze and evaluate live theatre and explore the relationship between theatre and
other art forms. Students will participate in an in-class production second semester.
*This class is open to all students without prior theatre knowledge. No audition is required.
Advanced Drama I-IV*: Students acquire skills in role analysis, character development, vocal techniques, and
communication of a text. Students solve theatrical problems through knowledge of the cultural, social, and political
aspects of the setting. Students design and implement technical aspects of a production. Students will perform or
crew in two productions a year.
*Audition and teacher approval are required.
Musical Theater*: This course is for the student that is interested in musical theatre. Students will rehearse, perform,
direct, and choreograph/stage various scenes and shows from the Broadway genre. Students will
perform or crew in two productions a year.

Stagecraft (Theater/A116)*: Students engage in problem-solving activities in theatre management, scenery
construction, costumes, make-up, properties, stage lighting, sound technology, and publicity. The course
includes hands-on experience in all aspects of theatre production.
