SCIENCE ELECTIVES
All Science electives meet the 4th year science credit. Please ensure you have the correct prerequisites needed
before registering for a science elective course.
Anatomy & Physiology*: 4th-year science! This course is a rigorous, in-depth study of the structure and function of
the human body that requires a mature approach and attention to detail.
*Prerequisite: Successful completion of Biology is required.
Astronomy*: 4th-year science! This course is a study of the solar system, stars, galaxies, and the universe.
*Prerequisite: Successful completion of Biology and Chemistry are required.
Forensics*: 4th-year science! This course will explore the scientific and technological aspects of criminal
investigation including the collection of evidence, blood, DNA, fingerprinting, ballistics, arson, and more! Students
should have strong lab skills and the ability to work with a partner or group.
*Prerequisite: Successful completion of Biology and Chemistry are required.
Microbiology*: 4th-year science! This course is the study of microscopic organisms such as bacteria and viruses.
Topics include growth and identification of bacteria, properties of viruses, epidemiology, parasitology and medical
microbiology including patient diagnosis of infections for each body system.
*Prerequisite: Successful completion of Biology and Chemistry are required.
Oceanography*: 4th-year science! Topics in this course include historical oceanography, plate tectonics,
properties of water, ocean circulation, marine sediments, air/land/water interactions, marine environments (with a
second-semester emphasis on dissection of representative specimens), marine resources, and how they are
used/obtained/threatened by pollution.
*Prerequisite: Successful completion of Biology is required.
