FOREIGN LANGUAGE  ELECTIVES





  SPANISH
  College Prep Spanish 1, Gifted Spanish 1: Through realistic use of the language, the student will learn to

  communicate in oral and written form on a variety of everyday topics and will gain cultural knowledge of Spanish-
  speaking countries.



  College Prep Spanish 2, Honors Spanish 2, Gifted Spanish 2*: Building on the background of Spanish I, students
  will learn to interact in more complex situations, read more complicated materials, and write more extended
  messages. Cultural understanding increases through reading and discussion of authentic documents.
  *Prerequisite: Successful completion of Spanish 1 and teacher recommendation are required (also
  placement for students who successfully completed a 2-year Spanish course in middle school).







  College Prep Spanish 3, Honors Spanish 3, Gifted Spanish 3*: Building on the background of Spanish II,
  students will learn to give detailed information, narrate events, read authentic texts, and handle more challenging

  situations in Spanish.  In addition, students will continue to develop a deeper understanding of the cultures of the
  Spanish-speaking world.
  *Prerequisite: Successful completion of Spanish 2 and teacher recommendation are required.  Please
  note this course is equivalent to Spanish for Native Speakers 1.



  AP Spanish Language and Culture*: Develop speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills, as well as continue
  the acquisition process of Hispanic and Latin cultures.  This class is conducted in Spanish.
  *Prerequisite: Successful completion of Spanish level 1, 2, and 3, and level 4 (optional); or SNS 1 and

  SNS 2 (optional) is required and teacher approval.


  Heritage/Native Spanish Speakers I*: This course provides native speakers an opportunity to maintain oral
  competency in the Spanish language and to acquire a more sophisticated level of competency in reading and

  writing. Students also gain a deeper understanding of their native culture and cultures of other Spanish speaking
  countries.


  Heritage/Native Spanish Speakers II*: This course provides native speakers a continued opportunity to practice

  communication skills; to maintain, improve and perfect oral competency in the Spanish language; and to acquire
  a more sophisticated level of competency in reading authentic texts and writing. Students also gain a deeper
  understanding of and interest in their native culture and cultures of other Spanish-speaking countries.
  *Prerequisite: Successful completion of Native Spanish Speakers 1.
