EPIC - STEM Program Electives

                               Engineering and Technology Pathway

EPIC Engineering Concepts*: This is the second course in the Engineering and Technology Pathway within the
EPIC program. Students will continue to design solutions to real-world problems using the engineering design
process within the EPIC program. Students design and build prototypes in three different projects throughout the
year as well as participating in ventures which explore concepts such as computational thinking, Arduino circuits,
rockets, 3D design, and more. In addition to covering engineering concepts, these projects and ventures
integrate student's EPIC math, science, and language arts, making them relevant and engaging. For example,
one project tasks students with creating a working prototype that solves a need in the daily life of someone with a
genetic disorder, while on another, students need to 3D design a building for the growing population of a Metro
area community. EPIC courses emphasize the strategies of being Experiential, Project-based, Innovative,
  Collaborative, and Cross-Curricular.
  * Prerequisite: Successful completion of Foundations of Engineering is required.

EPIC Engineering Applications*: This is the third course in the Engineering and Technology Pathway within the
EPIC program. Students will be challenged to build real solutions to real problems using the engineering design

process within the EPIC program. Students design and build projects throughout the year, in addition to
engaging in ventures which explore concepts such as energy, projectile motion, and more. These projects and
ventures integrate student's EPIC math, science, and language arts, making them relevant and engaging. EPIC
courses emphasize the strategies of being Experiential, Project-based, Innovative, Collaborative, and Cross-
Curricular. At the completion of this course, students will take the End of Pathway exam to earn their Engineering
  Pathway certification.
  * Prerequisite: Successful completion of Engineering Concepts is required.

EPIC Scientific Engineering Research I*: This is a fourth course available to EPIC students in the Engineering
and Technology Pathway, who have already completed Engineering Applications. Students will grow their
knowledge and experience by managing projects, products, and services. Projects will meet real-life needs.
Students will investigate, collect data, create an engineering solution, and implement the solution through a
project lens. These projects and ventures integrate student's EPIC math, science, and language arts, making
them relevant and engaging. EPIC courses emphasize the strategies of being Experiential, Project-based,

  Innovative, Collaborative, and Cross-Curricular.
  * Prerequisite: Successful completion of Engineering Applications is required.
