FOREIGN LANGUAGE ELECTIVES
LATIN
College Prep Latin 1: The student will develop the ability to read and write Latin through the study of vocabulary and
grammar, and be introduced to the Ancient Roman culture. The influence of Latin upon English will be emphasized.
College Prep Latin 2*: Students continue to develop language skills and to acquire an understanding of Latin and
Ancient Roman culture begun in Latin I.
*Prerequisite: Successful completion of Latin 1 and teacher recommendation are required.
College Prep Latin 3*: Continuation of the study of the Latin language, including grammar, vocabulary, and literature.
Students also study Ancient Roman history and culture and read original texts and readings.
*Prerequisite: Successful completion of Latin 2 and teacher recommendation are required.
College Prep Latin 4*: Continuation of the study of the Latin language and Ancient Roman culture including grammar,
vocabulary, and literature.
*Prerequisite: Successful completion of Latin 3 and teacher recommendation are required.
AP Latin*: AP Latin is equivalent to a fifth or sixth semester Latin college or university course. The focus of the AP
Course is selections from Vergil’s Aeneid and Caesar’s Gallic Wars: the two of the greatest works of Latin literature.
Students will gain an understanding of the classics through the preparation and translation of readings from the
selections. Students will learn the following: Roman values, themes of war, empire, leadership, history, memory, and
outsiders, literary techniques, and the importance of the gods.
*Prerequisite: Successful completion of Latin 3 and teacher recommendation are required.
Learn skills related to reading, writing,
listening, and speaking. Study about cultures
