“Thinking Globally: Sustainable Goals in the 4th
Industrial Revolution”
With the success of the International Research
Conference’s first day, Southville International School
and Colleges continued on the last day of the event
savouring the same vision and theme: “Thinking
Globally: Sustainable Goals in the 4th Industrial
Revolution”. It aims not just to present various studies
from different fields and professions but to further
educate the delegates within the said conference.
Introduction of the event
The second day of the event was also facilitated by Ms. Michelle Sto. Tomas, a research
associate of SISC, as she has smoothly managed the day one. As the day had started with SISC
invocation, this was further stabilized but the delightful welcoming of Dr. Melva Diamante,
President of Southville International School Affiliated with Foreign Universities, with her
undying inspirational message. After which, Prof. Carmelita A. Villegas, Dean of the School of
Nursing - SISC, introduced the keynote speaker, Mr. John Garrity (Author, UN Broadband
Commission for Sustainable Development Annual Report and Chief of Party, USAID-BEACON,
USA). Mr. Garrity then presented his research entitled as "The Contribution of Digital
Connectivity to Achieving the SDGs, and the Obstacles Present." He further discussed SDG no.
9 on the significance of communications technology to be able to provide universal and
affordable access to the internet, where he tackled how connectivity has buffered the impact
of COVID-19, the adjustment and transition from analog to digital along with its comorbid
crisis and aids. After he had shared his wisdom and answered questions, Dr. Ma. Felma C. Tria,
College Director of SISC, presented the e-certificate as appreciation on behalf of everyone for
Mr. Garrity’s valuable time and the extent of his knowledge and experience about the topic.
This was followed by a screen break and gentle reminder on the protocols that everyone is set
to follow.
