The election results are now official, and at Tuesday night's Dinuba City Council meeting three members were sworn in to a four- year term on the council. Maribel Reynosa, who won her re-election campaign against challenger Victor Rojas by merely two votes, was sworn in as the representative for Ward 2, while Dr. Kuldip Thusu, who also won his re-election campaign, was sworn in as the Ward 4 representative.

And newly elected council member Armando Longoria was sworn in to take the place of past-mayor Scott Harness, who vacated the seat for Ward 3 after eight years on the council.
In his farewell speech, Harness credited four women for being instrumental in his service to his community, his grandmother, mother, wife and daughter.
"If you want to know the reasons why Dinuba's public safety and future are so important to me, there sitting right here," Harness said as he acknowledged his family
in the audience.
Taking his place as Dinuba City Mayor is
Coucilman Thusu, who was elected in a 3-2 vote after four nominations were made by the council. In perhaps the most surprising election of the night, newly elected council member Armando Longoria was elected Vice- Mayor, also in a 3-2 vote, after a nomination for Council member Linda Launer was struck down in a 3-2 vote.
In both cases, the three carrying votes from council came from Joey Morales, Longoria and Thusu.
Dinuba city Christmas Parade, take two
Sentinel staff report
For the first time in Dinuba history, rain forced city personnel to cancel this year’s Christmas Parade, originally scheduled for Dec. 1.
At the time, because of rain during the week of, and the expected rain on the Saturday of the event, the city opted to cancel without plans for a rescheduled parade.
However, according to city of Dinuba Events Coordinator Michele Tapia, the city of Dinuba received numerous calls asking if the parade would be rescheduled.
“We got a lot of calls,” said Tapia.
Now, after discussing the matter with City Manager Luis Patlan, Parks and Community Services Director Stephanie Hurtado, and countless volunteers to make sure a rescheduled event could happen, the Dinuba Christmas Parade will hit the streets of downtown this Saturday.
The parade will go on as scheduled originally, starting at 5:30 p.m., parading through the downtown district. The parade will start on Elizabeth Way and travel west on Tulare Street. It will then turn south on South L Street, before making its way back to the starting point.
Some of the concern about rescheduling the parade was loosing some of the parade entries. However, Tapia said the parade will still have a decent amount of entries.
“We started with 48 entries,” Tapia said. “We have 39 entries for Saturday’s parade.”
This year’s theme for the parade will be “A Blast from the Past.”
After the parade, the celebration will continue at the Downtown

Miss Dinuba Audrey Menard encourages foster children to 'Dream Big' with care bags

Menard chose to do this because she remembers what it was like during a rough transition in her life. Having gone through the foster care system herself, she wanted children going through the system today to know that they are loved and they are not forgotten.
Now Menard is using her role as Miss Dinuba to reach out to other children in the system who may also be struggling with a rough transition.
“I’m so excited,” said Menard as she packed bags on Friday. “I know that just this little thing we are doing is going to make an impact on their life forever.”
To make the care bags a reality, Menard used

For her 2018 Miss Dinuba platform, Audrey Menard chose foster care, encouraging those in foster care to think beyond their current circumstances and dream big.
Now that message is sprawled across over a hundred t-shirts that will soon be distributed to foster kids throughout Tulare County. The t-shirts are just one of many things added to about 120 care bags that Menard and about a dozen members from her church, Grace of God of Dinuba, put together on Friday, Dec. 7.
Also provided in the black duffle bags were toiletry products, some of which was donated by Patterson Dental, a blanket, books that were donated by Tulare County’s Read for Life and two local teachers Lynn

When Audrey Menard chose a platform while running for Miss Dinuba she chose an issue close to home, foster care. A product of foster care herself, Menard vowed to help those in the system with care bags and to encourage foster kids to Dream Big. Now she is making good on that promise by providing nearly 120 care bags to children in Tulare County foster care services.
