The "evaluation" can include a certification by a third party of the modified equipment, but this solution
cannot always be practicable. Further provisions are made in the Standard regarding the protection
degree of the equipment: "d" (explosion-proof) and "i" (intrinsically safe).
When auxiliary equipment/devices, such as heaters, temperature sensor, etc. have to be added on
explosion-proof motors, the EN Standard 60079-19, Section 5.4.5, prescribes that the motor
manufacturer has to be consulted, to determine the feasibility of the add-on and the procedure to be
followed.

5) Surge Capacitor
6 ) EMC Coupler Iris 16 kV
9) Star Point Connection
10) Epoxy Resin Insulator
11) Coaxial Cable Gland
For intrinsically safe systems, with any protection level (Ex ia, Ex ib and Ex ic), and independently from
the hazardous area where the motor or system is installed (i.e. zone 0, zone 1 or zone 2), any change
affecting its intrinsic safety is considered a modification compared with the documented and certified
system. In such cases it is recommended to consult a qualified expert, responsible for the safety of the
system, and then apply for an additional certification.
