Troubleshooting
properly. For rapid resolution of any Technical Support issue, this should be included on any
Technical Support inquiry.
Any basic diagnostic failure will cause the Error indicator on the front panel to be blink
orange; so, if the Error indicator is blinking orange, the basic diagnostics should be the first
thing to check.

7.1.2. Advanced Diagnostics
More detailed diagnostics are available on a USB drive after downloading data from the
monitor as described in Section 6.4.2. These diagnostics include detailed event-based
information over the lifetime of the device such as reboots and measurement status.
If it is convenient, this could be included on any Technical Support inquiry, but typically
would not be necessary for resolving most issues.
7.2. SM Measurement
If there are no measurements downloaded from the Archive, this may indicate a problem
with the SM card. With the daily Archiving scheme described in Section 4.4, there should be
at least two sets of data stored every day.
The most obvious sign of a problem are the measurements that are being saved:
• If measurement results show a sudden change, this could indicate a problem with the
monitor or the sensors and termination box.
NOTE:
A change in data does not automatically mean a problem with the SM
system it could be caused by multiple issues including but not limited to:
• If the asset is not running, there will be a drop in signal level.
• Maintenance activities on the asset can cause a significant change
in signal levels.
• A legitimate shaft grounding brush failure also causes a change in
signal levels.
• If measurement results show a ‘clipped’ quality flag in SMView, this likely indicates that
it is time to change the sensitivity.
