The thought of sickness as punishment from God
has a long history. It’s interesting how, so many people
believe that “sickness is the direct result of the sins of the
sick person or the sins of his or her relatives. During the
time of Jesus’ earthly presence, this was an acceptable
reason for sickness. They also believed that tragedy and
national disasters were sent as punishment from God for
the sins of people.
