Unable to serve the warrant the ATF attempted a raid. An
intense gun battle erupted, leaving four (4) government
agents and six (6) Branch Davidians dead.
Following the ATF’s failed raid attempt on the
compound, a siege was initiated by the Federal Bureau of
Investigation (FBI). The total law enforcement presence
was 900 officers.
After 51-days of waiting the FBI got the green light
from U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno. They launched an
intense tear gas attack in an attempt to force the Branch
Davidians out of hiding. But, during the attack, the entire
Mount Carmel Church Center (somehow) became engulfed
in flames.
Within one-hour, the compound had been reduced
to a pile of ashes. In the smothering ashes were the
remains of 76 Branch Davidians, including 25 children,
two pregnant women and David Koresh.
In another case, on 22 November 2014 Tamir Rice,
a 12-year old African-American, was shot in Cleveland,
Ohio by CPD officer Timothy Loehmann. A 911-caller saw
young Tamir playing alone in a neighborhood park. He
reported that the child had a gun. The caller even said,
“It may not be real.”
When police arrived on the scene, (in the video) you
can see falling to the ground within a second or two of
officer Loehmann exiting his police cruiser. The officer
had already fired two rounds into a 12-year old child,
who was playing alone with a toy.
In fairness to both of the responding officers, they may
have very well have feared for their lives. But, their fear
would have been the result of other young men in urban
America who do carry and point real weapons at people.
