during a divinely orchestrated or permitted march
of death.
The book of Isaiah teaches us that just because
we believe in God and work in the church, doesn’t
automatically exempt us from pain or suffering. Being
a believer or doing the right things does not mean
you will be spared from earthly harm, sickness, or
suffering. We live in a fallen, sinful world that is filled
with sickness and suffering. And, we can at any time
find ourselves in harm’s way.
There are many Bible verses that speak of
quarantine. Some verses talk about quarantine as a
method for cleansing the body from affliction. Other
passages talk about quarantine as a protective hedge to
the people of God when they live in obedience to Him.
One such scripture has been bouncing around
ever since the coronavirus hit the United States. After
hearing about or reading Isaiah 26:20, for the first time
most churchgoers learn that quarantines are actually
biblical.
“Go home, my people, and lock your doors! Hide
yourselves for a little while until the Lord’s anger
has passed.” Isaiah 26:20 (NLT)
Many Bible scholars are quick to point out that
this is (more likely than not) words to a song, rather
than a word from the lord. The truth is, even if it is song
lyrics it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t take away from the
integrity of these words nor their validity as a directive
from the Lord.
