T hе prestigious home of Count de Sellon. the originator of the idea
of the League of Peace, was built in 1820 in Pregny, near the Palais
des Nations and was the home where the seeds of international
cooperation and реасе were sown, said Мr. and Мrs. Petrovsky, the Director-
General of the United Nations Office at Geneva and his wife. Count de Sellon's
dream has come true as so many world leaders are entertained in this home
which is the residence of the head of the United Nations Office. It also is
an evidence of Geneva's vision of its role in international affairs.
Mr. Petrovsky said that the approach of the 50th Anniversary of the United
Nations is so befitting with the vision of Geneva, and this global city will be
among the most important cities in the world to celebrate the birthday with
New York, San Francisco and Vienna. Describing this wonderful historical
home and its characteristic the Director-General unraveled Geneva's destiny.
As honoured residents of this home the Petrovskys are very enthusiastic about
consolidating the future role of Geneva as the seat for multilateral diplomacy.
Мr. Petrovsky has been able to secure assurance from the Swiss Govern-
ment and the Government of Geneva for the future operation of the
international organizations and establish it as the global city for hosting the
