The top photo shows parts produced by both 2-axis and 4-axis wire cutting. Whoever has
carefully read the above can independently determine the type of processing for each. Today,
machines from a number of manufacturers have an additional (in most cases optional) option
to equip a sixth rotary axis. This is usually implemented as a mechanical device (rotary table)
that is connected to the CNC system. Such a unit has either a rotating table-base for fixing the
work pieces, or a lathe (collet) chuck, and must have a certain protection against moisture.
The following photo shows an example of a submersible swivel mechanism of ARTA wire EDM
machines. The swivel unit, as a rule, is installed on the machine stage in such a way that its
rotation axis is aligned parallel to the X or Y-axis, sometimes Z (vertically). In the general case,
simultaneous 5-axis machining (6-axis machine) can be implemented, although the mechanism
often performs setting discrete rotations between machining cycles of the work piece from
different sides. The photo below shows a part produced by simultaneous 3-axis wire cutting (X,
Y, pivot axis).
