Background
In Israel, the professional level of rehabilitative rehabilitation department with 10 beds.
medicine is among the highest in the world, The new center will cover 7,283 square meters.
but the rehabilitation system is not optimally
organized. Most of the rehabilitation facilities
are located in the center of the country.
In the South, there is a significant lack of
rehabilitation beds. The number of hospital
beds designated for rehabilitation medicine
in the entire southern region of Israel (60%
of the country’s landmass) comprises a mere
8.5% of the country’s total rehabilitation beds.
The result of this situation is that patients
and their families are often forced to travel
long distances to receive proper treatment.
Despite the large population of this region,
no inpatient rehabilitation center existed here
until 2015.
In 2015, Soroka established a 20-bed acute
rehabilitation department in a temporary
facility, which has treated approximately 1,300
patients since then. Nonetheless, in order to
bridge the tremendous gaps in rehabilitation
medicine between the Negev and the center
of the country, Soroka is establishing a new,
comprehensive rehabilitation center that
will house a department with 36 patient
beds, hydrotherapy pools, and a pediatric
