The UN’s sustainable development goals
[SDGs]
For three decades, the countries of the world, led by the UN and other international
agencies, have been acting to form and advance a sustainable development
policy – at the global, national and local levels. In September 2015, the UN’s General
Assembly adopted an agenda for 2030 on the subject of sustainable development.
The 2030 agenda was adopted by all UN member countries and includes a joint
program for peace, prosperity and sustainability with a prospective view. The core
of the program contains 17 sustainable development goals: SDGs.
The SDGs represent an urgent call to all countries, developed and developing alike,
to work jointly, based on the recognition that accomplishing these goals will lead to
an improvement in health and education, reduction of inequality and assistance in
economic growth, while contending with climate change and safeguarding earth’s
natural resources.
All 17 goals have sub-goals. In total there are approximately 169 sub-goals in various
fields. The goals must be adopted jointly, and they act holistically with the aim of
achieving best results.
ICL considers adoption of everyday practices that help achieve these goals to be
of importance, at the individual level by each employee of the company and at the
level of the entire organization.
