Zero Hunger &
Food Insecurity
Even today, in the 21st century, hunger is identified as a leading cause
of death in the world, predominantly because there is unequal access
to natural resources and incompetent management thereof; this results
in millions of people suffering from malnutrition. It is important to
distinguish between hunger and food insecurity – hunger is a condition
caused by having no access to food, while food insecurity is the result
of having limited resources to obtain food and irregular access to food
that is varied and sufficiently nutritious. These situations occur primarily
in developing countries.
Primary Challenge \ Eradicating hunger, achieving food security,
improving nutrition, and boosting sustainable agricultural
development
\ Interim goals
2.1 Universal access to safe and nutritious food.
2.2 Eradicating all forms of malnutrition, achieving agreed upon international
goals relating to the stunted growth of children under the age of 5, and addressing
the nutritional needs of all other members of the population.
