\ What’s happening in the world…?

              Did you know that…?

              • The world’s population is expected to escalate, reaching 9 billion by the
year 2050; increased agricultural productivity will safeguard access to safe,
                  nutritious, and healthy food.

              • People with low incomes experience difficulty acquiring healthy and nutritious
                  food.

              • Poverty is also linked to the lack of education and consequently to a lack of
knowledge and awareness of the importance of a healthy, nutritious diet in
                  relation to food insecurity.
              • Food insecurity is further linked to obesity, vitamin and mineral deficiency,
and the risk of chronic illness.

              • According to a recent report by the Global Network Against Food Crisis
(GANFC) published in 2020 (alongside the outbreak of Covid 19), 155 million
persons from 55 countries suffer from an acute lack of food – the highest rate
                  in the past five years.

              • In the past two years, natural events such as heavy rainfall which has
damaged crops, outbreaks of locusts in Africa, and civil wars, have been
major contributors to increasing the number of people who have entered the
cycle of poverty by roughly one billion.
