Life on the

earth’s surface

Ecosystems provide man raw materials and a range of services, from
stabilizing the climate, regulating the oxygen concentration in the
atmosphere to pollination or landscape services.

Functional ecosystems are those which allows most life on earth
to continue, including human life. The existence of an ecosystem

requires constant maintenance of the inter-relations in it, when these
inter-relations are extremely unbalanced, the ecosystem may fail.

Today we are strongly influencing a major proportion of the ecosystems
and disrupting and causing the failure of some of them. Extensive
destruction of ecosystems is already causing mass extinction of

biodiversity (a term that includes all living creatures and plants).

Primary Challenge \ Protection of ecosystems on land, restoring

them and advancing their sustainable use, alongside sustainable
management of forests, combating desertification, stopping land
destruction and restoration of biodiversity
