Conservation of
marine resources –
life under the water
The oceans and seas provide natural resources that include: food,
medicine, biological fuel and other products. In addition, this is an area
for tourism and recreation that is an economic resource that helps reduce
poverty through marine agriculture. Industries that rely directly on the
services and variety of the marine ecosystem (such as marine agriculture,
food and beverages, tourism and hospitality, industry and energy) share
responsibility for conservative, sustainable use of the oceans and marine
resources.
The most common waste in the oceans is plastic and microplastic (small
pieces of plastic). Researchers estimate that by 2050, the quantity of
plastic will exceed the quantity of fish. Between Hawaii and California
there is a plastic island that is 2.5 times the size of France and 80 times
that of Israel.
