16 Days in England, continues from page 11We
made our way back to the hotel just in time to find
out that the Queen had passed away. Since our
coach tour began the next morning and that took
us to Winchester, our home base for the next nine
days, this news didn't affect our trip much.
The Winchester Royal hotel was built in the 16th
century but updated to "most modern comforts"
(you will understand this choice of words later).
When we think of history here in the US thoughts of
Belle Meade and other plantations come to mind
but this hotel was built before we were even a

Finally, Real Fish & Chips with former NBCC members , the Stedmanns,
now living in Florida.
The second night there we finally got our fish and
chips at a pub that opened in the year 1002! (
editor's note: That's not a typo.)
I was seated in front of a fireplace hearth from the
original building! Winchester's rich history dates
back to the Roman era and it served as England's
capital until it was replaced by London. Our hotel's
location was within easy walking distance of many
restaurants, museums, and attractions.

I will mention, now, that after hearing the horror
stories about dealing with baggage at Heathrow we Don't be surprised --Authentic Fish

We were very lucky that the weather was near
perfect for our entire trip. We visited Brooklands, a the Concorde
racetrack built in the 1920s ( which also has an on exhibit at
extensive aviation history) and the London Bus Brooklands.
