CHILD AND YOUTH READINESS SCALE
NOTES
SUMMARY
Please review the above 9 areas and provide an overall Child and Youth Readiness Score. Identify the areas of
readiness or lack of readiness for indirect to direct inclusion of the child’s voice.
This tool is meant to assist the practitioner who meets with a child to consider the child’s readiness for input to
parents and third parties as a way to guide sensitive inclusion
The score is one indicator of the possible level involvement of the child in the Child Centred Continuum process.
The results should be seen in the light of the Parent Readiness Scale (PRS) and the practitioner’s own practice
judgement.
Low CYRS
Score 1- 20
Caution re: directly including children. Use indirect methods of including children.
(Level I and II of CCCM)
Moderate CYRS
Score 21- 33
May include children via a Child Specialist or if practitioner has skill-set he/she
may include children in a more direct manner as part of the process. (Level III or
IV of CCCM)
High CYRS
Score 34-45
Child readiness is high. Practitioner may include children in the process without
concern of harm, however, Practitioner must still utilize child-sensitive skills when
including children. (Level IV of CCCM)
