Day 17 - I Know My Purpose And My Reward

            Scripture:
“I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So
neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God,
who makes things grow. The one who plants and the one who waters have one
purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor. For we
are co-workers in Gods service; you are God’s field, God’s building.” 1
            Corinthians 3:6-8 NIV

            Reflection:
It is clear that growth is the outcome in our projects. But thank God I am not
responsible for it. Growth is a mysterious process that happens underground in
the dark out of normal sight. We each have an assignment, e.g. bring up new
ideas to be planted in ministry or in our work and/or to nurture the development
with systems, feedback and insights. We are united by the same purpose.

Be mindful that you don’t confuse your title with entitlement. Your title is about
the job you are assigned to do in the world. Anyone who invests much time and
effort will be compensated according to her level. You will not be payed extra
simply for having a title. Busy yourself with the mission so that the collective
purpose can be accomplished-through you and those you develop.

When all of our labor is done--your staff, your team, your committee, your crew,
your tribe has done well. God will take care of growing the project. We are
guaranteed our reward by working our purpose in God’s field.

            Prayer:
Dear God, thank you for taking care of our growth and the mysteries of the
unseen. You have already endowed us with gifts and talents. Let us use those as
seeds in your kingdom. Let us not be concerned with our neighbor’s title or
accolades. Remind us that we are unified in our singular purpose.

            Have your way.

Let your will be done. Reward us according to our labor. Keep us from idleness
so that we may claim our full reward in Earth and in the Heavens. We Honor
You. We Love You. We Praise You. We Give Thanks, Selah. AMEN.
