My Dear Phoenixes

What a crazy year it has been for you all!

And while I know that this year did not go

according to plan, it’s not completely
surprising to me that your matric year

turned out to be as strange, unpredictable
and unique as you!

There are so many special moments that we anticipate for matric, and I

know how difficult it would have been for you not to have the opportunity

to celebrate the end of your five years in high school. Having to deal with a
global pandemic is difficult for everyone, and even more so when you feel

that there are pressures to perform.

I am sure you have thought about these things often throughout the

course of the year, and no doubt you have heard many speeches about
how to persevere, and I know that you have all done the best you could.

But you must also remember that life does not end here. This is just the

beginning. You still have so much to look forward to.

In my last address to you as your Grade Head, I told you that the real

pursuit of life should be happiness. And I told you that happiness looks
different to everyone. I hope that in the last two years, you have really

considered what happiness means to you. I hope that you have found
ways to be both happy and kind. And I hope that you have helped those

around you to find happiness, too.
