     Dear Class of 2020

                                                                        a g a i n , a n d
                                                                            a g a i n !
You've made it! (Well, almost) I will never forget meeting your grade,
with Mama Zoggz and Papa Strauss during the first group of
orientation week in Grade 8. It was during this week that I realized
that this group of kiddies will have the biggest impact on my
teaching career. My first year of teaching, and your first year of high
school. I will forever cherish the memories that we made together.
I'm sorry all the traditions you've been looking forward to in your
matric year are not happening as planned. I remember watching
your faces during assemblies, seeing the hope thinking it will be you
soon. And my heart breaks, because while some of us are mourning
the postponement of things, you're mourning a moment, a
milestone, a set of memories that you won't get to have the way
you'd been dreaming about for years. It is upsetting, and all the
feelings of frustration and sadness and disappointment you have
right now are warranted. Here's what else I know: you are some of
the most powerful and innovative students I have ever taught. This
group came from all walks of life, and still accepted each other as
brothers and sisters. Thank you for being awesome and fun and
inspiring and silly and intelligent. You not only made me a better
teacher, but you made me a better person. I'll always be grateful I
got to spend two and a half years of your life working with you. I am
excited to see where you go next.
                                                                                                           36
