REBATES: The rebate amounts are based upon the same required criteria as Honor Roll status: timing
completion of required activities including convening a business meeting, two board meetings, and an
educational seminar with at least 2.0 hours of continuing education credits and producing two annual
publications. The intended use of these rebates is to carry out the required activities of the state
societies and to cover some of the expenses for the state delegates to the AMT annual meeting. It is
with joy that we announce that all 38 of the state societies will receive their full rebate this year, even
though one failed to meet Honor Roll.
STATE SOCIETIEY UPDATES:
As noted above, the AMT state societies ended 2019 doing exceptionally well. However, with the
spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, 2020 saw a rough start for everyone, including the state societies.
Central District had two states cancel meetings scheduled for April. Eastern District had six of its seven
states schedule meetings during the spring months and subsequently cancel them due to the pandemic.
Great Lakes District had six meetings scheduled this spring, all cancelled; five of these meetings are
rescheduled for the fall should the restrictions be removed by that time. Southern District states had
one state hold their business/educational meeting, four cancel meetings and three scheduled to hold
meetings in the fall. Western District had the first district meeting in a very long time scheduled to be
held in late March. Due to the pandemic this meeting was cancelled leaving all of these states in the
Western District without a business/educational meeting this spring. AMT wide, state societies were
informed by the Council that if they had a meeting planned and were forced to cancel it, they would
receive credit for the meeting toward Honor Roll and rebate requirements. Likewise, the first
publication was cancelled to relieve pressure on members many of whom were serving on the front
lines of this pandemic. The states were, however, required to hold virtual board meetings and to elect
delegates to the annual business meeting.
CENTRALIZED BANKING:
Centralized banking through AMT has worked well this past year once the state societies have become
familiar with working with it. Leadership changes at the state level are now so much easier with regard
to transfer of financial authorization, just requiring completing online forms rather than having to
congregate at the bank to sign documents. We have continued to have problems with outsiders
attempting to illegally obtain AMT funds through the internet. Accounting department employees as
well as state officers are aware of this problem and are alert to these attempts, shutting them down
quickly.
COUNCIL ACTIVITIES:
There was a total of 30 District Councillor visits during 2019, including Councillors making the following
number of state society visits. Central—six of seven, Eastern—six of seven, Great Lakes—five of seven,
Southern—nine of nine and Western four of eight. The number of joint meeting was down last year so
the visits were achieved primarily by individual visits. Due to the cancellation of all but one state society
spring meeting, Councillor visits are off to a slow start for 2020, however, the one meeting that took
place, Georgia, was attended by the Southern District Councillor.
Following the Chicago convention, the Council held a day-long leadership training session for state
society leadership and others who wished to participate. The session was well attended, and those
present were provided with information that would help them with their state society duties. The Board
has asked that the Council plan and execute a similar session to be held at the convention every other
year. This means no leadership training is planned for 2020, but look forward to another successful
session in 2021 in Norfolk, VA. The Winter Council meeting was held in conjunction with the Texas State
