Society meeting in Houston. The meetings were held at the NASA Space Center amongst the rockets
and space capsules. The word best describing this experience is simply “AMAZING”!!! The Council
meetings focused on review of the proposed updated Editor’s Manual and the finalization of the revised
District Councillor job description. Results from the District Councillor Effectiveness Survey completed
by state society leadership in September were reviewed and there was discussion regarding planning for
ways to improve identified areas of weakness. We thank TXSSAMT for allowing us to join their meeting
and for allowing us to participate in their social activities.
Of the AMT committees reporting to the Council, three had changes to their leadership format. Armed
Services Committee added a vice-chair. PEMC lost a co-chair when Kathy Sutton, MT was elected to the
Board, but gained a vice-chair when the committee was split into publications and electronic media
sections each with their own vice- chair. The third format change was that the Student Activities
Committee has co-chairs, one for each the student bowl and the scholarship section of the committee.
While the Scientific Committee didn’t see a leadership change, they did identify “track managers” for
different specialties and developed a new process for identifying speakers. We look forward to
improvements these changes will bring.
At the beginning of 2020 the Council said farewell to Great Lakes District Councillor Beverly Christiansen,
RMA. We thank her for her years of service to her states and to AMT. To help fill the void created by
Beverly’s departure, we welcomed a new member to the Council in Vanessa Austin, RMA as the new
Great Lakes District Councillor.
This will be the last annual report that I write as I am stepping back from the position of Executive
Councillor. It has been a great run, and while it has been difficult at times, it has been fun and
rewarding the majority of the time. As I depart, there are so many I would like to thank. I would like to
thank the AMT Board for allowing me to serve. Thank you to the AMT office personnel for their
continued assistance, providing me the support I needed to perform my duties. To all of the state
officers, thank you for all your hard work to improve the state societies and to “roll with the punches” as
things changed over the years. The chairs and members of the Council committees (Armed Services,
Convention, PEMC, Scientific, and Student Activities), thank you for carrying out your responsibilities,
and advancing the mission of AMT. Most of all, I would like to thank all of the District Councillors that I
have served with during my time as Executive Councillor. The amount of work that these people do is
unrecognized by most. They are all dedicated AMT members who have given tirelessly of their time,
their talents and at times their funds. They were always there when I needed them, helped me face
some difficult decisions, and above all, they were there to champion the members they were appointed
to represent. Thanks, Councillors, I couldn’t be prouder than having served among AMT leadership with
you.
I look forward to attending future conventions, and without leadership responsibilities, I’ll have more
time to enjoy the educational sessions and explore the cities where the meetings are held. I won’t be
needing to rush off to the next meeting, and I look forward to the opportunity to socialize with friends,
old and new.
Respectfully submitted,
Edna Anderson, MT
Executive Councillor
