Joni and Bracha

Joni and Bracha were a young couple, and both of them were fighters
in the Palmach (the regular fighting force of the Hagana). The British
put Joni in prison for 7 years. On every visiting day, Bracha came to
visit Joni, and between visiting days she wrote him letters.
One day, Bracha went to help illegal immigrants from Europe to enter
Israel. The British saw them and killed her.
Joni was in prison, and he did not hear that Bracha died. On visiting
day, he waited and waited for Bracha – and she did not come. He did
not understand what happened.
That day, Joni worked in the kitchen. He opened the food crate and
found there an old newspaper. In the newspaper, there was a picture
of Bracha with a black border…
Only then Joni understood that his Bracha had died.
That evening, the last letter of Bracha arrived. In the letter, she wrote:
"I wait for you very much. I think that soon we will meet…"
Joni also died in a war over Israel, in 1948.
