                                          Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors
                        e.g. Acetazolamide (oral), Dorzolamide & Brinzolamide (topical)


                         Inhibit CA (Carbonic anhydrase) throughout the body.
              MOA                       CO2 + H2O  HCO3  + H  (hydrogen acid)
                                                                           +

                         So  formation of aqueous humor ➔  IOP ➔  treats glaucoma.

                        Treatment of disorders such as:
               Uses          High-altitude sickness ( aqueous fluid from the ears).

                             Glaucoma.
                         1)  Acetazolamide  the excretion of weak bases such as amphetamine,
                             ephedrine & quinidine ➔ their serum levels ➔ drug toxicity.
               S/E                                Because it causes alkaline urine.

                         2)  Hypokalemia
                         3)  Hyperglycemia.

              Note      Dorzolamide & Brinzolamide combined with Timolol to treat glaucoma
