Chapter Ten
Sun City Center
“The home of Cadillacs and cardiacs, newly weds and nearly dead’s -
where if you’re on time you’re late.”
Hillsborough County is a Charter County in which there are only three in-
corporated cities - Tampa, Temple Terrace, and Plant City. All of the other
named places such as Sun City Center, Brandon, Wimauma, Ruskin, etc,
are simply that, named places. All of them are governed officially by the
Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners.
Unofficially, Sun City Center is governed by a voluntary Board of Direc-
tors (Sun City Center Community Association, Inc.), also known as the
“CA.” The residents of Sun City Center who are members of the CA elect
these directors. All residents are required to be members. If they do not
pay their dues the CA, will file a lien on their homes.
In a recent agreement, residents of Freedom Plaza may become limited
members of the CA. Upon approved application, management will pay
your dues. Application forms may be obtained from Stephanie, FP’s Ex-
ecutive Assistant. Some facilities of the CA are open to outsiders. If you
are interested in a particular activity and do not want to be a CA mem-
ber, ask if you may participate.
The last issue of the SCC telephone book was published in 2019. It con-
tains a wealth of information. Each of the over 200 clubs is listed with a
contact person. All residents of Sun City Center, Kings Point, Sun Towers
and Freedom Plaza are listed. There is no separate listing for The Court-
yards and Aston Gardens as those residents are not members of the CA.
There is a Hometown Section where all those listed in the Sun City Cen-
ter White Pages are listed again by state and city. This is followed by a
Crisscross listing by telephone numbers. This listing includes everyone in
the book. There is also an address listing that does not include Freedom
Plaza but does include Kings Point. This is followed by a business listing
and lastly the yellow pages. In addition, there is some Sun City Center
history included. It is a wonderful resource document.
