IN THE LAW OF THE COSMOS

I feel time gathering within me—
                   Not loudly,
                   But like distant stars
                   Shifting their position in silence.

                   Certainties loosen their grip.
                   I find myself drawn
Toward those who have walked longer roads,
                   Listening to their stories
                   As if they are maps
Of constellations I am only beginning to see.

                   Once, I celebrated being untethered—
                   A free spirit,
                   Certain of endless horizons.
                   Now a quieter awareness rises:
                   Independence is not permanent;
                   Even stars collapse
                   After their long-burning pride.

At dawn, the birds still sing.
                   I wake before the clock,
                   Not because of urgency,
                   But because something within
                   Knows the rhythm of light.
They leave the nest without fear,
                   Without pondering age or death—
                   Living inside the present pulse
                   Of existence.

As a child, I hurried toward adulthood,
                   Impatient with becoming.
                   Now I feel the slowing—
                   Growth bending inward,
Like a galaxy drawing its arms close.

                   But this is no tragedy.
                   It is law.

                   After expansion, contraction.
                   After ascent, descent.
                   After the blazing star,
                   The quiet ember.
