ADDITIONAL RESOURCES
Kent State University’s Credit Transfer Office oversees the flow of coursework, experience and credentials onto the
student academic record. However, there are many other offices with specialized knowledge of transfer student issues.
TRANSFER ADVISING
WHO ADVISES THEM FIRST?
All prospective transfer students are directed to the Transfer Advisors located in the Admissions office. This advising is
usually unofficial and helps them understand how the application process works, how their prior coursework may
transfer to Kent State, and answer any questions on University requirements. Once a student has made a decision on a
program, advising is usually handed over to the college for major advising. Prospective transfer students can be
directed to transferadvising@kent.edu to speak with an advisor. The student can also access transfer-specific
information through their website www.kent.edu/transfer where there are links to various departments such as
Transfer Advising, Financial Aid, Scholarships, the Credit Transfer Office and more.
TRANSFER KENT STATE (TKS)
WHAT ABOUT ORIENTATION?
The University College hosts an orientation program for all incoming transfer students to the Kent Campus. Students
will be introduced to campus resources, meet with an academic advisor, build their fall schedule and get their
FLASHcard (KSU ID). Students will also have an opportunity to attend interactive workshops of their choice. At
orientation, students will meet other transfer students and engage in some fun activities to assist them in learning their
way around campus. Admitted transfer students can register for TKS here. If you have any other questions, email
Student Success Programs at transfer@kent.edu or call 330-672-2014.
ADMISSIONS
WHERE ARE TRANSCRIPTS SENT?
Admissions offices are the ones that process all transcripts for prior transfer work and planned work. Transcripts can
be ordered through the original institution and can be sent electronically or by paper. Ohio public institutions send
electronic transcripts through a direct XML file exchange through the state, while other institutions may use various
other electronic services. If a student needs an email address to send transcripts, use admissions@kent.edu.
GRADUATION PLANNING SYSTEMS (GPS)
WHERE DO STUDENTS SEE THEIR TRANSFER CREDITS FIRST?
The GPS audit is the first place that students are directed to see their transferred credits. The GPS team is highly skilled
in understanding how transfer credits are applied to the GPS audit. For questions we cannot answer about how
transfer credits are applied to the GPS audit, we may refer you to them for further review of program requirements.
*For more detailed information on transfer policy, please refer to the Transfer of Undergraduate credit policy in the Kent State
University catalog, the Credit Transfer Office website and FAQ pages, as well as the Transfer Policy Guidelines of the Ohio
Department of Higher Education. If you have questions regarding specific courses, please contact the Credit Transfer Office directly.
Please note that transferability of credit does not determine applicability of courses to a student’s major program. Program
applicability is overseen by the college of the program, not the Credit Transfer Office.
