One-wAY squAre KnOT
Yet another variation of the square knot, this is par-
ticularly handy when you need to pull a thicker rope
through a constriction with a thinner rope. For exam-
ple, you can use the one-way square knot after using
a light cord for a heaving line and you now want to
pull a heavier rope over a limb. Because the working
ends point in one direction, they are less likely to snag.
1. start by tying a square knot with the two ropes.
2. Then take the working end of the narrower cord and wrap it
over and then under the standing part.
