dOuBLe FIshermAn’s KnOT

                  Here is the master joining knot for cordage of simi-
                  lar diameter. The double fisherman’s is the one to tie
                  whenever  you  do  not  want  things  to  come  untied.
                  It  can  be  used  on  thin  cord,  heavy  rope,  or  web-
                  bing. Once this knot has been tightened down, it is
                  extremely difficult to untie!
                     Also  known  as  the  grapevine  knot,  this  offers
                  superior  security  in  most  situations  because  the
                  knots  tighten  and  jam  against  one  another  when
                  loaded. If less security is required, say for a flashlight
                  lanyard,  then  a  single  overhand  knot  may  be  used.
                  And when maximal security is required, particularly
                  with slippery rope, then triple overhands can be tied.











                  1. start with one working end and tie a double overhand knot by
                  adding an extra wrap around the standing part of the rope.







                  2. Thread the other working end through the loops of the double
                  overhand.
