Pharmacological and clinical uses:
1. Adaptogenic activity: Ginseng has normalizing action to balance the body
functions. The two main ginsenosides R.b and R.g respectively suppress and
stimulate the C.N.S. ,these opposing action may be the cause of the adaptogenic
description of the drug and its ability to balance the body functions.
2. Ginseng increases the mental and physical capacity for work due to its
stimulant effect on C. N. S.
3. Antifatigual effect ; as it facilitates the release of energy stored in the
muscles, resulting in a better movement due to improvement of the general
metabolism .
4. Improving the endocrine system function especially the thyroid and
adrenal, causing improvement of many conditions arising from OLD age.
5. Improving the control of glucose in the blood of diabetic persons.
6. Traditionally used as aphrodisiac and tonic .

Side effects due to prolonged use:
Hypertension, skin eruptions, insomnia , euphoria nervousness, morning
diarrhea .So long term ingestion of large amount should be avoided .
