Roots containing Isoflavones
Derris Root
Botanical origin: Derris is the dried rhizomes and roots of Derris ellipteca and
D . mallaccensis Family Leguminoseae.
Constituents:
Isoflavones mainly rotenone.
Uses:
Used in the form of very fine powder as
horticultural and safe insecticide .
it is not poisonous to man and domestic animals ,but inhalation of the powder
produces unpleasant symptoms.
N.B. before its use as insecticide ,it was used to paralyze fish, also applied to
treat head lice and scabies.
