Exudative
• Impaired water absorption and leakage of mucus,
blood and pus into the lumen
• inflammatory states (ulcerative colitis , crohn
disease) or due to bacterial infection that causes
inflammation

Infectious diarrhea…..
1. Viruses as rotavirus and Norwalk virus
• Rotaviruses: affects children <2years.
• onset : 1-2 days and lasts 5-8 days. /watery stools
• severe dehydration/no pus or blood in the stool.
• seasonal infection, with peaks of gastroenteritis occurring between
November and February.
• Norwalk virus (Norovirus) It affects older children and adults.
• onset :1-2days and lasts 24-48 hours/ no pus or blood in the stool.
………………… flu (viral gastroenteritis)
• is an infection caused by a variety of viruses that results in
fever,vomiting and diarrhea.
