Advanced Role of pharmacist?
(clinical pharmacist in hospitals)

• Optimise initial medical management of life-threatening
exacerbation of asthma as outlined in the guidelines, by
advising the medical staff on the following:

1. Appropriate dosage regimen of nebulised bronchodilators
2. Role and choice of antibiotics, if needed
3. Appropriate dosage calculation and administration of IV

aminophylline
4. Therapeutic drug monitoring of aminophylline and appropriate

dosage adjustment
5. Prescribing and administration of other medications for the

treatment of a life-threatening exacerbation of asthma.
