NSAIDS AND PREGNANCY:
Aspirin and other NSAIDs (category B/C
in 1 and 2nd trimester and D in third
trimester)
¨ shouldn't be used during pregnancy
especially in the third trimester as they
may cause complications in the fetus.
¨ Additionally, they are linked with
premature birth and may cause bleeding
if it's used just before birth .
¨ In France, the country's health agency
contraindicates the use of NSAIDs,
including aspirin, after the sixth month of
pregnancy.

More..
• While NSAIDs as a class are not direct
teratogens, they may cause premature closure
of the fetal ductus arteriosus (leading to
potential neonatal pulmonary hypertension)
and renal ADRs in the fetus.
• Other adverse effects of NSAIDs in later
pregnancy include oligohydramnios caused by
reduced fetal urine output, necrotizing
enterocolitis, and intracranial hemorrhage.
