1. If oil is used → dissolve in volatile solvent and spray on granules.
    2. If spray is used → mix with powder or granules before lubrication.

II-4. Sweetening Agents
Added to effervescent and chewable tablets when natural sugars (sucrose, mannitol, lactose,
dextrose) are absent.
Examples:

    • Aspartame (180× sweeter than sucrose)
    • Saccharin (500× sweeter)
    • Cyclamates

II-5. Adsorbents
Substances that carry large amounts of liquid without swelling.
Example:
Silicone dioxide — can carry liquid up to 50% of its own weight.
Used when formulation contains:

    • Oils (e.g., multivitamins)
    • Liquid extracts
    • Hygroscopic ingredients
Types
    • Silicone dioxide
    • Magnesium silicate
    • Magnesium oxide
    • Clays (e.g., Kaolin)
Method of Addition
Mix hygroscopic ingredients with adsorbent first, then incorporate into powder blend.

Powder Properties Before Compression
Before perfect tablets can form, powders must have:

    1. Good flow: Ensures uniform die filling → consistent tablet weight.
    2. Good compressibility: Upon compression, particles deform:
