Disadvantages:
    • Produces more dust.
    • May cause weight variation.
    • Granules have poorer flowability compared with wet granulation.

II - Direct compression:
Used for materials that possess excellent flow and compressibility.
Materials suitable for direct compression:

    • Spray dried lactose
    • Microcrystalline cellulose (Avicel)
    • Anhydrous lactose
    • Dicalcium phosphate dihydrate
Advantages:
    • Fewer processing steps.
    • Faster and cheaper.
    • No moisture or heat involved.
Disadvantages:
    • Limited number of excipients suitable.
    • Segregation of drug and excipient may occur.

Tablet Coating:
It's the process of covering the surface of a tablet with a layer of coating material.
Objectives of coating:

    1. Mask taste and odor of drug.
    2. Protect the drug from air, light, and moisture.
    3. Improve appearance.
    4. Reduce dusting.
    5. Control drug release.

Types of coating:
    1. Sugar coating
    2. Film coating
