Constituent:
0.8 - 2.8% volatile oil which contains esters: mainly
linalyl acetate,
alcohols: linalol and geraniol
N.B.
Genuine lavender oil normally contains over 35% of esters
while the oil of spikes contains little ester but a high proportion
of free alcohols (23 - 41%).
Uses:
Lavender oil is widely used in perfumery and toiletry industries
as well as:
- In local pharmaceutical Preparations to mask disagreeable
odour.
- In the anti-arthropod preparations & it is also a natural
repellent for moths, mites and fleas.
- Alleviation of insect's bites and stings, cuts, scrapes and
abrasions.
- In dyspepsia.
- Treatment of rheumatic pains.7- In aromatherapy in cases of
restlessness
and insomnia (by inhalation).
