T. S. in Cinchona bark
Cinchona powder :
It is yellowish-brown to reddish-brown in colour with bitter and
astringent taste, characterized by :
1- Fragments of thin-walled cork cells filled with reddish-brown matter.
2- Yellowish bright phloem fibres, either entire or in broken pieces,
spindle-shaped with thick stratified lignified walls and funnel-
shaped pits. They have rounded apices and narrow lumen.
3- Fragments of brown parenchyma, occasionally with idioblasts of
microprisms of calcium oxalate.
