• All preparations standardized to contain 20–30 mg
       hydroxyanthracene derivatives calculated as glucofrangulin A.

   • Taken at bed
   • Used as agreeable laxative preferable to cascara on account of its

       less disagreeable taste.

                     Cinchona Bark

Botanical oigin :It is the whole or cut dried bark of Cinchona pubescens

(cinchona succirubra), of C. calisaya, of c. ledgeriana or of its varieties
or hybride family Rubiaceae. It yields 6.5% of total alkaloids, of which
30-60% consists of quinine-type alkaloids.

Macroscopic characters :

The stem bark is supplied in quilled or curved pieces.

- The outer surface : is dull brownish-grey and

frequently bears whitish or grey lichens, more or less
rough, marked with transverse fissures and
longitudinally furrowed or wrinkled.

- The inner surface : is yellowish-brown to deep

reddish-brown; finely to coarsely longitudinally
striated.

-The fracture:

Short in the outer part and slightly fibrous in the
inner part
