Medicinal uses

Short-term treatment of occasional constipation. As a single dose, for
total intestinal evacuation before X-rays and other diagnostic
examinations when electrolyte solutions alone are insufficient for
adequate evacuation or the use of electrolyte solutions is not possible.

Contraindications

During pregnancy and lactation, and in patients with endogenous
depression or liver disease.

Dosage forms

- Powdered crude drug, powder, dried extract, liquid and solid
preparations.

  - Store in a tightly closed, light-resistant container for a maximum of 3
years.

Posology

(Unless otherwise indicated)
   • The correct dosage for the treatment of occasional constipation is
       the smallest dosage necessary to maintain a soft stool.
   • Daily dosage: 0.5–2.5g crude drug taken directly or in a decoction;
       0.5–2.5 ml 25% ethanol extract.
