*Solvent: alcohols are not used
Pyridine is the most widely used solvent?
             dimethyl formamide or dimethyl sulfoxide.

•GLC columns used for analysis of sample derivatised by silylation
•e.g. that with carbowax , or free fatty acid liquid st.ph. are incompatible

with silylating reagents ? conditioned (HMDS )

Example of silylating reagents:

1 trimethyl chlorosilane
2 hexamethyl disilazane

*weak donor , not commonly used

3 Bis trimethyl silyl acetamide (BSA)
