FID (Flame Ionization Detector)

The most widely used of all ionization detectors
Carrier gas is N2 or He

Mechanism:
   The hydrogen flame heat results in pyrolysis

 RH + H2 + O2 → CO2 + H2O + e + ions- + ions+

* Insensitive to formaldehyde , formic acid, H2O , gases
* Usually it is not connected to GSC
*It is not used for moisture content determination
