The cell contain radioactive (β-rays) source (tritium,
adsorbed into a silver foil, or 63Ni) , electrically connected to
the negative side of the power supply .
The β rays are used to produce electrons for capturing by
appropriate atoms
63Ni is stable up to 350°C
3H is stable up to 220°C (↑ temp.→ release of 3H , potential
health hazard)
