                   Dosage form

                   Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient(s) Excipients
                   (API)
                                                                        Inert ingredients (have no pharmacological
                   = Drug(s) effect)

Chemical compound intended for used in e.g. Binder, diluent, flavoring and coloring
diagnosis, treatment prevention, of disease. agents, etc….

Combination of API and excipients in a formulation

Roles of excipients

Facilitate the administration of the dosage form (e.g. pourability, palatability, spreadability)
To protect the formulation from physical and chemical instabilities
To enhance the solubility of the drug in the formulation

Why we need drug dosage forms?

 1. Provide safe and convenient delivery of accurate dosage
API handling and Accurate dosing can be difficult or impossible (potent drugs: low mg
         and µg doses)

 2. Conceal bitter taste, or odor of a drug substances.
Example: Capsules, coated tablets, flavored syrups

 3. Protection of a drug substances from atmospheric oxygen, light or moisture.
